It’s fair to not expect much from such a comparatively diminutive DAP. And, while the M6 has a decent EQ and filter modes, it doesn’t test as well as an iPhone. It gets a bit louder, and hisses a bit more than an iPhone SE. But it also drives earphones and headphones better at normal to loud listening levels, shows little load stress, and keeps a charge for at least 12 hours. It’s a good player with some cool features, especially in the wireless realm.

It’s almost 100 metres to the weeds at the end of my street. BTR1K got 75% of the way before its signal went soft, and 90% of the way before it completely broke up. That’s as good as the Radsone EarStudio ES100 was with Firmware 1,4, and better than every other Bluetooth DAC I’ve tried, price be damned.

RMAA: FiiO BTR3 24-bit

As you know, I love the BTR1 and uBTR, but the BTR3 is a swing and a miss. Great measurements, yes, but physical interface/orientation problems and poor wireless signal catching make the BTR3 practically rubbish to use.

RMAA: Fiio BTR1 24-bit

November 28, 2017 ohm

I get over 7 hours on a single charge, and notice very little hiss at all. It shows a certain amount of frequency oscillation, and moderate levels of jitter. Next to Astell&Kern's more expensive XB10, both are minimal. The BTR1 sounds, and measures, good.

RMAA: FiiO M3 24-bit

December 22, 2015 ohm

This iPod nano guy flipped out when he saw Fiio's first Facebook advert for the M3. It is my strong opinion that portable players should come in all sizes. Shirking high-quality, comfortably pocketable players for kludgy touch UIs, massive screens, and evaporating battery life is poor form. My readers know my better than I do.

RMAA: Fiio X3 2nd gen 16-bit & 24-bit loaded/unloaded

June 15, 2015 ohm

While Fiio's X3ii isn't as poorly designed as is the original X3 (which I reviewed here), it still isn't great to use. Seriously, what's with portable hi-fi manufacturers trying to re-tool the classic up-down-left-rigth cross pattern into X, Z, Y, or other unintelligible designs? If you don't agree with me, I have no hope for the mid-range Hi-Fi DAP. However, I reckon that you'll agree with me that the X3ii performs brilliantly. In fact, at least in 16-bit, it even marginally outperforms my favourite DAP, the iPod nano 7G, of which I posted these RMAA results.
