Meike 35mm F0.95 - an almost perfect classical 50-ish for your Fujifilm X

February 11, 2023 ohm

The only other manual focus 50mm or equivalent lens I like more than the Meike 35mm f/0,95 is the Zeiss Planar 50mm 1,4. And what I like more about the Zeiss is its superior ergonomics, haptics, and build quality, none of which is a strike against the Meike, certainly not at its price.

Review: YONGNUO Macro Lens YN60mm F2 MF

December 10, 2018 ohm

Whilst penning a review of my favourite semi wide-angle medium format lens, I realised that I’d not updated my experience with Yongnuo’s 60mm F/2 Macro EF lens. The short of it is that in a few areas: contrast, sharpness, colour aberrations, and general mechanics among them, it is good. But its misses are big; one in particular is a show stopper.

ohmage to the Voigtlander Nokton 40mm F/1,2 Aspherical

I wasn’t a 40mm guy on 26 November when my VM 40mm/F1,2 copy came in. After capturing about a thousand images of my daughter, a few of my wife, and about a dozen bokeh frames of our beloved IKEA Christmas tree, I’m ready to say that I’m still not a 40mm guy- at least not on a Leica M.

Instant ohmage - Leica SL's haptic miracle

January 10, 2017 ohm

Early last fall, I purchased the above Leica SL from fotopia. Gilbert, Fotopia's mano on toppo, took careful enough charge of my order that I'll be back when he has a free Leica M10, Elmarit 28 ASPH II, and a spare Novoflex ASTAT-CN collar. Many thanks, fotopia.

THE VERY LATE LEICA M TYP 240 REVIEW

Børge Indergaard's honest, studied review of the Leica M Typ 240 is well worth a read. His main concerns are: white balance and skin tones.

How I learned to stop worrying and love the Instagram

May 29, 2015 Fook

The realisation that I'm not as bad a photographer as I thought I was gave me a huge boost of confidence. And now I'm doing everything I can to improve my photography.

Since first publishing The Sony A7ii taught me to respect the Fujifilm X100s here at ohm, I decided that I should find a reliable way to get my photos online for both critique and support. The usual avenues: Facebook, Flickr, 500px, and of course, hashtag-happy Instagram, were the top on my radar. Below is my crude analysis of each.

Going Full Frame with the Canon EOS 6D

March 12, 2015 Thomas Tsai

Editor's note: this essay is written by long-time OHM IMAGE friend, and confidant, Thomas Tsai aka Mr. T, of Cymbacavum fame. You may also know Thomas Tsai from products such as OHM AIR, and The A-Team. Be sure to check out his flickr account, Thomas Tsai Photography (Facebook), and Cymbacavum. And, stay tune for more. His journey has just begun.

When it comes to photography, I’m not exactly a gear head. I’ve been using my Canon EOS 40D for the past eight years or so, and it has served me quite well. In today’s terms, however, the 40D is a stinker. The cheapest micro 4/3rds cameras best it in image quality on DxOMark, and my iPhone theoretically has the better autofocus system. It doesn’t even have video capability.

August 25, 2014 ohm

Wedding photographer, Daniel Cheung, sold all his Canon gear in favour of Fujifilm. He grabbed the X-T1 (which he covers in-depth here). The compact, light-weight camera, "was reason enough to ditch the DSLR".
