Disclaimer: Mycroft loaned me both Nail models for the purposes of review, which I published at Headfonia. After publishing the review, I was told that I could keep both earphones.
Subject: MyST Nail 2x2; MyST Nail 3
The MyST Nail series is aberrant among modern earphones. It looks cheap but it isn’t. It fits like an Etymotic ER4. It’s accessory set is its ear pads. Its cables are fixed. In a market focused on most everything that it isn’t, Nail isn’t a product that sells itself.
You have to hear it to get it. But hearing it is trouble. Mycroft are a bit hard to contact, and their website surfs like a hurricane. Finally, the name, Nail, while figuratively descriptive, isn’t something you want to put next to your brain. Mycroft manufacture in an aero space factory. Why not name it something like Soyuz, with functional delineators like 2x2, 3, etc.? I happen to really like the 2x2 and am ambivalent about 3.
I know there are loads of other people that share my preferences for clarity over power. For people that share the same or similar preferences, Nail should be on a worldwide Head-fi tour- it's too difficult to find otherwise.
